Thank
you for all the sweet valentine gifts and candy! I appreciate your
thoughtfulness! The class had a fun party and a great Valentine’s Day! J
Book order forms have been
sent home. You can fill out the form and return it to me with your money or
order online! The book orders are due on Thursday, February 23rd.
I need all Mid-Quarter reports
signed and returned by Tuesday, February 21st. Thank you!
Please remind your child to
read and color a day on the calendar for Book-It!
Lent begins on Wednesday,
February 22nd with Ash Wednesday and continues until Easter. We will
celebrate mass at 8:15 on Ash Wednesday. During Lent, we abstain from eating
meat on Ash Wednesday and every Friday until Easter. If your child brings their
lunch on these days, please do not
send meat. We will also have Silent Wednesdays in the cafeteria which means
there is no talking during
Wednesdays during Lent. If you come and eat with your child on Silent Wednesday
please follow this also. During Lent I will be asking each child to think of
one thing he/she would like to give up during Lent, or something additional
he/she would like to perform during Lent. Some possible ideas might be: give up
snacks after school on Fridays, give up ice cream, give up candy, give up
sodas, pray one decade of the rosary each night, read a Saint story each night,
etc. You might, as a family, like to come up with something to do together.
This is a wonderful opportunity to help teach your child to act as Jesus did
No School on Monday, February 20th
for President’s Day!

The Our Father prayer quiz will be on Thursday,
February 16th.
Our class collected lots of
great stuff for The Humane Society. Thank you for being so thoughtful and generous!
We are still collecting money
to fill our Baby Bottle for the Heart to Heart Center. The class has been
doing a great job filling our bottle! Keep up the good work!

Class News
Book order forms have been sent

class earns free books! Book orders are due on Wednesday, January 25th.
The next prayer quiz is the Our Father. A copy of the words
are on the inside front cover of the homework notebook. Please have your child
start practicing this daily. The prayer quiz will be on Thursday, February
16th.
Our class will be working on a service project for Catholic
Schools Week. We will be working on projects for The Sebastian County Humane
Society. One thing we will do is collect items to donate. A list of items that
can be donated is on the back of the class news sheet that was sent home. We
will also make posters for The Humane Society. I am going to try to get the
Humane Society to do a class visit. Please help support this great cause!
The third grade is working on a project with the Science
Stewardship Expo which will be held on Friday, February 3. Our project involves
making things out of aluminum as a way to promote recycling. We will be
collecting empty, whole aluminum cans to use for our projects. Please send
aluminum cans to school with your child next week! Thank you!
The 100th day of school is on Tuesday, January 24th.
If your child would like to bring 100 small items to count to school that day,
they can. Items could be pennies, cotton balls, legos, candy, cereal, blocks,
etc. Please bring these to school on Tuesday.
Next week starts the Baby Bottle kickoff for the Heart to
Heart Center. We will have a very large baby bottle in our
classroom. If you would like to send spare change with your child to
help fill the bottle, that would be appreciated. You might want to
have your child consider “donating” their snack money on Fridays to this worthy
organization.

The January Book-It is in your child’s homework notebook. Please encourage your child to read for 20 minutes and color a day on the calendar!

I will also have the spelling list on the page each week. I added book ordering information and links to educational websites that the students enjoy. One of the best things to look at is my calendar that lists all the tests and important events that are coming up. I hope this information will be useful to parents! J

The Christmas program will be performed on Monday, December 12th at 1:30 and Tuesday, December 13th at 7:00. Thank you!
Field Trips-
1. On Tuesday, December 13th, we will go on a field trip to St. Scholastica to sing Christmas songs and present our items we have been collecting. We will leave school 9:00 and return by 10:30.
2. On Wednesday, December 14, we will be going to IC School for a visit with author Michael Shoulders. We will leave at 9:25 and return at 10:45.
**Reservations and money for the Christmas Luncheon are due Mon. Dec. 12th.
**Friday December 16th is early dismissal following lunch or by 12:30 p.m. There is no after school care that day!
Our class needs to provide 3 desserts for the Christmas luncheon on Friday. Please let Ms. Bender or Mrs. Brewer know if you are able to bring a dessert! Thank you!
